Brief Intro:

Liberal. Supporter of Planned Parenthood. Loves sweets. I spend a little too much time in my own head. My brain doesn't like numbers. I come off as quiet and I have a bad habit of inadvertently sneaking up on people. Always do things the hard way because I'm stubborn and can't see the big picture. I like berries and tomatoes. The most played station on my Pandora account is 70's soft rock. I make funny faces at myself in the mirror.

I have a new show! It only took me a day to find! It's a chick show with a twist (like Drop Dead Diva)!

Everyone, meet Being Erica.

From the CBC website (a major network in Canada):

Being Erica is a one-hour series that explores the life of Erica Strange, a woman who has been given a wonderful gift. Every episode, Erica goes back to relive a regret from her past, in order to come back and make a positive change in her present.

It runs on SoapNet in the U.S., but I've watched the first two episodes on Hulu. I think I like it a lot because I keep wanting to call my co-worker Erica and her name's not Erica!

No more Dollhouse! *sobs* C and I watched the last three episodes last night.

(The show's been over for a year. Do I need to put spoilers?)

I'd just like to state for the record that Joss Whedon is an evil and brilliant bastard. Topher sacrificed himself. Topher Brink. I was so sad for Adele. Her boy sacrificed himself.

I should know by now that Joss Whedon KILLS EVERYONE and yet I still watch his shows.

Oh, and there was the other stuff that happened on Dollhouse. You know, like saving the world and everything.

I've got to get myself hooked on something else. Any suggestions? I especially love shows with a strong fandom base.

Past and Present Shows:

*SGA
*SG-1
*Star Trek
*Grey's Anatomy
*Glee
*House
*Drop Dead Diva
*Buffy
*Angel
*Firefly

And, as [personal profile] krickets  reminded me, The X-Files. I was a huge X-Files fan back in the day.

*Watching the very last episodes of Dollhouse. EEEEEEEEEE. Why, why was this series canceled? It was so awesome in its awesome-ness. Topher 2.0 was just brilliant.

*Bought new shoes today. Yay for Dansko and Earth Shoes. Comfy and well-made. They'll be making their debut appearances this week at work.

*Considering joining Weight Watchers. I think I need help in eating better. I'm really not doing a good job on my own. *eyes tasty donut holes on the kitchen counter*

*Our tv crapped out. Well, the cable part of it did. The connection on the tv doesn't work any more. My husband is all too gleeful about this. He's been angling for a big-screen tv since we got married. :D

*Wegmans is now selling Frankenberry, BooBerry, and Count Chocula cereals because, you know, Halloween's only two months away!

*I like grape juice!

THE END

Processing

The past week for me has been...a lot. Maybe I haven't completely processed the full effect of All The Things Happening At Once, but I'm getting there.

24th: Found out my grandmother died
25th: Started a new job
27th: Last day at old job
29th: Attended the wake for my grandmother and helped my aunt clean out my grandmother's bedroom
30th: Attended mass for my grandmother and then her funeral

I'm not sure at this point where my emotions are taking me. I might process them quietly this time instead of collapsing into a big heap one night. Not that either way is bad. I usually break down a little when Big Things are happening in my life.

What I do know is that I'm going to treat myself gently this week. Now is not the time to go back to the gym or berate myself for being fat like I normally do. I'm going to sleep when I need sleep and tell myself that it's okay to break down and cry and it's okay if I don't cry, too. The whole gentle concept is new to me, but it's something I feel I need to do for right now.

Watching Epitaph, Part One now. Two things to say about it. One, WTF?  and two, oh, that scene between Topher and Grace Adele. Oh...so heartbreaking. I just wrote Grace. Who the hell is Grace?

Okay, I kind of get it now. But Part Two is not until the series finale. Boo.

The whole Whedon-verse meets BSG? Hee. And, look! Alexis Denisof! *snorfle*

Umph. Guess I'm no spring chicken anymore. :p

I took a three-hour nap in one of the recliners the other day and my left hip was sore after I got up. I sat on the floor last night, using my laptop, and my hip was sore when I went to bed. I took some ibuprofen and that helped me sleep. I'm sitting at my desk and my hip is a little sore even now. I do a lot of sitting so that probably doesn't help anything and I get almost no exercise (except for the occasional walking jaunt). Oh, and I sleep mostly on my left side, so it's probably no wonder that my left hip is sore.

Drop Dead Diva is back! Woohoo! I totally missed the new episode on Sunday (because the Tonys were on!). If I get my homework done tonight, I'm rewarding myself with the newest episode (which on the Lifetime website).

I'm back! The question is where did I go? And the answer is...I'm not sure. I've been buried under work/school, work/school, rinse, repeat.

C and I went to the beach for five days and it was GLORIOUS. Seriously, we were ten steps from the beach and I saw a fox and I went in the ocean and we went out to eat and I had lots of fish and lots of cheesecake and I want to go back!

There was the cutest independent bookstore in the beach town we went to. I found a fabulous book called Still Alice
by Lisa Genova. So good and so sad. I bought a book at full price and I almost never do that. I still have it at home. I can give or send it to anyone who wants to read it.

I've done so much kvetching about the big "T" and I want to apologize for that. I'll stop now, I promise (easier to do now that the paper's turned in!).

Decided to take the cats to a new vet. The old vet seems incompetent and the waiting room's always busy. I'm taking Zoe to Just Cats today so they have a look at her swollen lip. I'm not sure what's going on there. Her bottom lip is red now. It was that way when she was a kitten and then her lip was normal and now it's not and she's two and a half. I'm hoping the new vet will know what's going on. The old vet prescribed pills which I'm not giving to Zoe without a second opinion. It'll be hard enough to give her the pills (she's crafty and not easily tricked), but I don't want to give the medicine without a good reason.

Fingers crossed on the job I applied for. It's about five minutes from home! K also applied for the job and I would love for her to get it. :D

Trying to get out and about and do more stuff. J and I went hiking a week and a half ago. I really like hiking, but I don't get to do it very often, so yay! I'm keeping my eyes on Lilith Fair and Wolf Trap because there are some awesome concerts going down this summer!

My class is over at the end of June, so I'm thinking of getting into baking again this summer. I barely even cook right now, so baking will be an adventure! My husband loves this quiche so I think that'll be first on the list.

Due to a certain post on [community profile] fatshionista , I am already planning my Christmas list because...OOO, SHINYS. Jewelry by LuShae: www.jewelryartdesigns.com

(Could someone please tell me how to have just the name of the site and you click on it and that leads to the website address? I keep screwing it up.)

hepburnesque: (reading)
I found out something very important and awesome today in my search for a menorah to put in the library.

Lamb Chop is Jewish.

By the by, does anyone know where I can buy a menorah? We have a small Christmas tree up on the library desk, but not really anything else. One of the students asked where was the stuff for Hannukah? Good question. I did find Hannukah cards and put those up on the desk, too. I did find a paper menorah at Five Below. I'm not sure how that's going to work until I set it up.

I also spotted electric menorahs on Amazon. Are electric menorahs sacrilegious?

Not to mention, I know nothing about Kwanza. Any pointers on that holiday?

Another steal from [livejournal.com profile] crickets.

I would love to send lots of cards out this year. :D

Ten Wishes

Nov. 20th, 2009 09:04 pm
hepburnesque: (squee)
Shamelessly stealing this from [livejournal.com profile] crickets because she's inspiring and awesome like that. :D

Wow...Olivia Wilde's in really good shape...Sorry, sorry, watching House right now. Whee. (I...must have missed an episode. When did Cuddy get a boyfriend?)

So, this wish list. I'm gonna give it a try this year. *rubs hands in glee*

THE RULES
Step One:
→ Make a post (public, friendslocked, filtered... whatever you're comfortable with) to your LJ. The post should contain your list of 10 holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fandom-related (fics, graphics, etc.) to medium (books, dvds, etc.) to really big (computer, house, pony!, etc.) The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.
→ If you wish for real life things (not fics or icons), make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) could get in touch with you. [Note: Your home address is not required!]
→ Also, make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your LJ.

Step Two:
→ Surf around your friendslist (or friendsfriends, or just random journals) to see who has posted their list.

And now here's the important part:
If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. Sometimes someone's trash is another's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use--or even know where you could get someone's dream purebred Basset Hound for free--do it.

You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out, it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf--to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not--it's your call.

There are no guarantees with this project, and no strings attached. Just...wish, and it might come true. Give, and you might receive. And you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special.

WISH LIST! )

Let me know if you have a wish list anywhere! :D

I'm also going to try to spread some joy on [livejournal.com profile] holiday_wishes !
